WATW Essay competition – Get published!

Sunshine Coast school students in grades 10-12 (inclusive) are invited to enter an essay competition for their chance to have their piece published in the Sunshine Coast Daily and win a flight around the Sunshine Coast for three people with Lachlan Smart.

As the driving force behind  Wings Around the World, Smart is intent on promoting youth achievement and is using his goal to become the youngest pilot in history to fly solo around the world, in a single engine aircraft as the catalyst for his message that dreams can be achieved, no matter how big or small.

With the spotlight set to be on the Sunshine Coast throughout Smart’s trip, Sunshine Coast students are encouraged to submit an essay outlining how Wings Around the World will affect the local community.

Entries must be received by Tuesday May 31, with prize winners announced online and on the Wings Around the World Facebook.


Key Details: 

  • Essay due May 31
  • First prize: Essay published in the Sunshine Coast Daily + flight for you and three mates with Lachie around the Sunshine Coast
  • Runners up to receive a Wings Around the World cap

Essay guidlines

  • Topics may include personal inspiration stories, benefits to local schools, sports and organisations, universities, businesses, tourism or more (be creative!).
  • Essay’s should be no more than 800 words.
