Australia’s aspiring world record holder for the title of the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe solo, in a single engine aircraft, Lachlan Smart is set to continue spreading his message of youth achievement at a Sunshine Coast School tomorrow.
Come first bell of the day at Caloundra City Private School on Tuesday March 8, students will divert from their normal landing point in the classroom to a talk with Smart, who will speak with them about his impending trip, setting goals and the mindset needed to break them down goals in order to achieve them.
“Even though I talk with conviction about youth achievement, I still need to sit back sometimes and take my own advice.” – Lachlan Smart
While Smart is a confident public speaker who enjoys talking to fellow youth about taking flight with their dreams, he said that the advice he provides are the same words he reserves for himself in the challenging moments of organising his world flight.
“After spending plenty of years in the Air Force Cadets, speaking to an audience is something that comes easily to me,” Smart said.
“Even though I talk with conviction about youth achievement, I still need to sit back sometimes and take my own advice. It’s always important to know what will and won’t work and learn from your mistakes.
“Overall I love giving these talks at schools. The last school I spoke at I was at I was approached by a student and she told me she had given up on her dream of becoming a fighter pilot, until she heard what I had to say.
“That is what Wings Around the World is all about, giving confidence to others so they can achieve their full potential and do what they may otherwise only dare to dream about.”
Smart will meet with students at Caloundra City Private School at 8.30am on Tuesday March 8, before returning to continue his fight planning, and talking with potential partners who have shown an interest in joining the Wings Around the World world record attempt.
